Wilma Hits South Florida as Cat 3

Posted on October 24, 2005

Hurricane Wilma strengthened over night to sustained winds of 125 mph to hit Southwestern Florida as a Category 3 hurricane. After moving across the everglades the storm only weakened slightly and still carried sustained winds of 110 mph into major cities like Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. There have been early reports of serious flooding in the Florida Keys and there will be lots of wind damage across Southern Florida. Miami.com and the Sun-Sentinel.com websites have damage reports. Wilma is not forecast to become a dangerous northeaster but the Northeast will need to keep a close eye on Wilma just in case.
