March 2012 Warmest March on Record for Contiguous United States

Posted on April 9, 2012

NOAA says March was the warmest March on record for the contiguous United States. An insane number of high temperature records were broken or tied during March - over 15,000. If this kind of record breaking were to occur in a much hotter month like July or August there would be some deadly heatwaves involved. The above image shows 2,441 heat records that fell in the contiguous U.S. from March 9-15, 2012. Here is an animation of the 7,755 daytime and 7,517 nighttime records broken in March, 2012.
