Video: The Frilled Lizard's Funny Looking Escape Method
Posted on December 30, 2012
This video shows how the bicycle lizard or frilled lizard (Chlamydosaurus kingii) escapes predators. It has a very unique method to get away.
The lizard opens its mouth wide and flares out its frills when it is frightened. This can startle a predator long enough for the lizard to make it to a tree and escape. The lizard runs upright during the escape.
ABC Science reports that even baby frilled lizards are capable of using the frill display right after hatching from the egg. The lizards are found in northern Australia and southern New Guinea.
