Posted on August 26, 2013

Titan Aerospace says its solar powered drone, Solara 50, could remain in space for years at a time. The drones have enormous wings containing solar paneling. Titan calls the drones atmosphere satellites and says they are a "High Altitude Long Endurance solar UAV capable of carrying telecom, reconnaissance, atmospheric sensors and other payloads"

The drones would fly at an altitude of 65,000 feet (20 kilometers). Titan says the solar UAVs would use solar energy to power propulsion and payload during the day as well as charge battery banks for use at night.
