Robotic Salamander With Foldable Limbs Can Swim, Crawl and Walk

The Biorobitcs Labaratory (Biorob) at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology has upgraded its robotic salamander. Salamandra robotica II is twice as fast as its predecessor.

The robot has foldable limbs which it can use to transition from swimming to walking. It also has more powerful microcontrollers and improved limb coordination. The researchers worked with neurobiologists to develop the robot. The robot has a gait very similar to that of a salamander. Take a look:
