Rezero, a Ballbot, Could One Day be Used in Museums, Parks and Hospitals

Rezero is a ballbot that balances on a single ball. It can move spontaneously in any direction. It was designed by engineers at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. The ballbot balances with the help of three omniwheels located at the top of the main rubber coated ball.

The concept was introduced in 2010. Rezero was also the subject of a Ted Talk in July 2011. Some uses of Rezero include use as a hands-free navigational tool in parks and museums. It could also carry medical equipment in hospitals and allow patients to move around by helping to carry their IV. Some also see Rezero as a means of transportation. So far, the robot has promise but remains in the concept stage. Take a look:
