Residents of Canadian Town Concerned Bloating Whale Carcass Might Explode

CTV reports that residents of two smalls towns in Newfoundland, Canada are concerned about rotting blue whale carcasses. There is concern the bloating whale carcass in Trout River might explode. The carcass is filling up with methane gas as it decomposes. There is also concern someone could fall inside the 60-ton carcass.

Jenny Parsons, owner of the Seaside Restaurant in Trout River, tells CBC.ca that she is concerned someone could get swallowed up inside the carcass. She says, "People have been so close they've been actually standing on it ... not a good idea, because if somebody gets swallowed into the insides of that whale it's going to be quite dangerous to get them out of there."

Don Bradshaw, @DonBradshawNTV, is covering the blue whale carcass for NTV News. He shared photos in a tweet that show the whale carcass looking slightly less bloated, which could be a good sign for the town.

There is also concern the smell will eventually detour tourists. Currently, the whale has been attracting some tourists. Take a look:
