Researchers Develop Prosthetics for Paraplegic Sea Turtle

Researchers have built a prosthetic device for a paraplegic sea turtle named Hofesh. Hofesh is the Hebrew word for freedom. The device was created by Shlomi Gez, a student at Hadassah Academic College in Jerusalem. The Sydney Morning Herald reports that two of the turtle's flippers had to be amputated after he was caught in a fishing net. The amputation saved his life, but made it extremely difficult for him to swim. Gez drew inspiration from the F-22 Raptor warplane for Hofesh's artificial flippers. The prosthetic device is strapped onto Hofesh's back. Take a look:
