Report: Five Ice Cave Groups Discovered in China's Yunqiu Mountains

Posted on June 18, 2011

China's CCTV News reports that five ice cave groups have been discovered in China in the Yunqiu Mountains of Xiangning County in Shanxi Province. The caves retain ice even in the summer when the outdoor temperature is over 22 degress Celsius (71.6 degrees Fahrenheit).

Chen Shicai, a researcher at China's Institute of Geology and Geophysics, says, "It's amazing that the ice caves have ventilation, with not only ice but also cold wind at low temperature, some 2-to-4 degrees centigrade coming out of some of them."
