Reddish Honey in Utah Blamed on Bees Being Fed Crushed Candy Canes

Red honey discovered in commercial hives in Utah is being blamed on bees being fed candy canes and other candy materials. KSL reports that state inspectors were called in and have linked the red-colored honey to a beekeeping operation that was feeding its bees "a concoction of crushed, rehydrated candy canes and other candy materials."

The inspectors say the bees were fed the candy cane product from troughs or a huge barrel. The inspectors also found that other bees discovered the candy cane concoction and carried it back to other hives in the region. The beekeeping outfit that was feeding the bees candy has not been named. The honey is considered contaminated because of the red dye involved. It is also reportedly awful tasting. The county honey bee inspector has resigned due to fatigue from the ongoing red honey investigation. Take a look:
