Rare Tornado Hits New Zealand Suburb, Destroys 150 Homes

A rare powerful tornado struck a suburb in west Auckland, New Zealand on Thursday. The Telegraph reports that it was the strongest tornado to hit New Zealand in over 60 years. Three people were killed. Stuff.co.nz reports that New Zealand Prime Minister John Key says there are at least 150 homes that are beyond repair. A video on that same page also shows some of the destruction from the tornado.

Here is raw footage of the storm caught on film. A driver managed to drive through some of the storm while refusing to stop. The passenger said, "You need to stop." The driver replied, "I'm not stopping. That's the last thing we do." Take a look:
