Posted on December 6, 2012

NASA has released new images of the Earth at night. A global composite image of the Earth at night was constructed using cloud-free night images from a new NASA and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) satellite, the Suomi NPP satellite.

The U.S. at night is pictured above - a larger version can be seen here. NASA also released a composite map of the world at night, which you can find here. Here is a NASA video with the amazing imagery:

Steve Miller, a researcher at NOAA's Colorado State University Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere, said in a release, "For all the reasons that we need to see Earth during the day, we also need to see Earth at night," said. "Unlike humans, the Earth never sleeps."
