NASA Aqua Composite Satellite Image Shows Massive Winter Storm

Posted on January 3, 2014

This composite image was created by images from NASA's Aqua satellite. A large version of the image can be found here.

The Aqua satellite passed over the United States multiple times allowing the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) to capture images of the storm.

NASA says this a true-color image of a massive winter storm. The storm will be known more for its brutal cold temperatures than the moderate snowfall amounts. NASA says extreme wind chills to 55 below Fahrenheit will be possible in the northern Plains this weekend.
