March 11 Japan Tsunami Broke Icebergs Off Antarctica

Japan's massive earthquake on March 11th generated a tsunami that caused widespread destruction in northeast Japan. It also calved icebergs from the Sulzberger Ice Shelf in Antarctica. The NASA images above show the icebergs that broke off after the sea swell of the tsunami reached Antarctica. The NASA footage is the first direct observation of a tsunami leading to iceberg calving.
