Hurricane Wilma Threatens Florida and East Coast

Posted on October 18, 2005

Wilma is now a Category 1 Hurricane with sustained winds of 80 mph. The National Hurricane Center is forecasting Wilma to strengthen to a Cat 3 Hurricane and eventually make landfall somewhere on the Florida Peninsula this weekend with South Florida being the most likely target.

After making landfall in Florida, Wilma could move very rapidly up the east coast possibly battering New England with heavy winds and rain. The Sun-Sentinel offers good coverage of the storm for Floridians.
