Posted on March 19, 2014

Hubble celebrates its 24th anniversary with this stunning infrared look at the Monkey Head Nebula. The star forming region, also known as NGC 2174, is located 6,400 light-years away in the constellation Orion. Instestellar dust particles in the nebula begin to glow at infrared wavelengths when they are warmed by the ultraviolet light of the stars.
