Google Launches Project Sunroof to Show Solar Energy Potential of Homes

Google has launched a new project called Project Sunroof. The goal of the project is to show the solar energy potential of homes. It is currently available in San Francisco, Fresno and Boston.

Google says in the announcement that the tool lets homeowners find out the solar energy potential of their home "without having to climb up any ladders."

Those in the project launch regions can enter their address and Project Sunroof will return the calculations. The tool uses factors like roof orientation, shade from trees and buildings, and local weather patterns to determine the amount of energy a house could obtain using solar panels. Take a look:
