Engineers at the Fraunhofer Institute Build Disposable Spiderbots With 3D Printer

Posted on November 7, 2011

Engineers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA have built a cool looking robot spider. The spider robot can crawl over uneven surfaces on its eight legs. The robot could be useful for surveying areas where humans cannot reach or that are too toxic for human beings.

Inhabitat reports that the spiderbot was produced by a 3D printer. The spiderbot is cheap to make. Ralf Becker, a scientist at the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation, says, "Our robot is so cheap to produce that it can be discarded after being used just once - like a disposable rubber glove."

Sadly, there is not yet any video of this awesome looking spiderbot.
