Ant Physics: Fire Ant Mass Behaves as Liquid and Solid

This video from the New York Times, called "The Incredible Physics of Ants," shows masses of fire ants behaving like both a liquid and a solid. The Times reports that physicists are intrigued by the mass ant behavior. The behavior helps give the fire ants some amazing survival strategies, such as floating on water. Part of the footage is from a presentation at a American Physical Society in October. Take a look:
