Disney Reveals a New Type of Display Created by Swarming Robot Pixels

Disney Researchers revealed a new type of display that is created by tiny swarming robot pixels, called Pixelbots. Pixelbots are cute little two-wheeled robots with magnetic wheels. The swarming bots are controlled by a central computer. Take a look:

Disney also revealed real-time drawing and gesture control for these Pixelbots. A picture can be drawn with graphics software and the robot pixels will realign themselves in the shape of the picture. The tiny robots can also mimic the movements of a person. Take a look:

IEEE reported on Disney's research into robot swarms when they were first being developed in 2011.
