Disney Research Creates Creepy Looking Robot That Plays Catch

Disney Research has created a robot with a creepy face and Terminator-like body that is capable of playing a fun game of catch with humans. The robot returns the ball to the human after catching it.

Disney says it used an external camera system (ASUS Xtion PRO LIVE) to locate balls and a Kalman filter to predict ball destination and timing. The robot was also designed to turn and look at as it catches the ball. It can also shake its head, look down or shrug its shoulders if it fails to catch the ball. Take a look:
