Chandeliering Ice Phenomena Observed at Minnesota Lake

Posted on April 30, 2013

An interesting phenomena called chandeliering ice was observed on the shores of Medicine Lake, a lake in Minnesota. The noise of ice shattering can also be heard.

The temperature is cold enough to form ice, but the sun is partially melting it as it forms. The brittle ice has formed in unique wave-like piles along the shore.
