CDC Says New Swine Flu Strain Has Sickened 158

Posted on August 10, 2012

The CDC says a new swine flu strain (H3N2v) has sickened 158 people. Most of the people who have fallen ill contracted the strain at state fairs where they came into contact with sick pigs. The good news so far is that the disease does not spread between humans at this time. You would have to come into contact with a sick pig to get sick. Eating pork is not a risk factor. However, the CDC warns, "While there is no evidence at this time that sustained human-to-human transmission is occurring, all influenza viruses have the capacity to change and it's possible that this virus may become widespread."
