Cattle Rancher Keeps Record Setting Hailstone in His Freezer

Les Scott, a cattle rancher in Vivian, South Dakota, keeps last year's record breaking hailstone in his freezer. The hailstone fell on July 23, 2010 in Vivian. NOAA's National Climate Extremes Committee declared the hailstone a record last year.

The hailstone is 8.0 inches in diameter and weighs 1.9375 pounds (1 pound, 15 ounces) with a circumference of 18.62 inches. Les Scott also had a plaster mold made.
