Beachgoers in China Frolick in Record Setting Algae Bloom

The beaches of Qingdao in East China are thick with green algae. This hasn't stopped people from swimming in the water. Instead it seems to have encouraged them. An article in the Huffington Post shows beachgoers frolicking in the Enteromorpha prolifera, a non-toxic algae. The Guardian reports that this algae bloom covers 28,900 square kilometers (over 11,000 miles) and is over twice as big as the previous record bloom set in 2008. Bulldozers were called in to remove the record amounts of algae from the beach. Take a look:
