ABC News Australia reports that Australian scientists have developed a new variety of pineapple, called the AusFestival Pineapple, that has a coconut flavor. The Aus Jubilee pineapple is pictured above. It is another pineapple developed by Australian scientists. The Aus Jubilee's flavor has a hint of coconut. The new AusFestival pineapple has a much stronger coconut flavor.

Queensland Department of Agriculture's senior horticulturalist Garth Senewski describes the flavor as "sweet, low acid, very juicy." He also says it has a "lovely coconut flavour."

ABC News Australia says it will be two more years before the AusFestival is commercially available. A fruit and vegetable company named Favco will produce and sell the coconut flavored pineapples.
