Arthropod Ancestor Had Mouth Like Sarlacc from Star Wars

Scientists from the University of Bristol and the Natural History Museum say an arthropod ancestor named Pambdelurion had the mouth of a penis worm. They also say it had a mouth like Sarlacc from Star Wars. Sarlacc was seen in Return of the Jedi. It lived in the Great Pit of Carkoon.

Bristol University’s Dr Jakob Vinther says in a statement, "The mouth is a spitting image of the Sarlacc from Star Wars." Vinther is pictured below holding a freshly discovered specimen of Pambdelurion.

Pambdelurion lived in the oceans 520 million years ago. Fossils of the ancient creature have been found in the northernmost part of Greenland. A research paper was published here in the journal, Pambdelurion.

Vinther also says, "This solves a mystery for the affinities of this giant mouth and demonstrates that the two previous hypotheses – whether the mouth belongs to Anomalocaris or a penis worm - are not exactly right, but not entirely wrong either."
