Animal Friends: Baboon Adopts Bushbaby

Posted on July 30, 2011

A baboon and a bushbaby, named Gakii, have become friends at the Nairobi Animal Orphanage. Nairobi Animal Orphanage. Animal orphanages can lead to unusual situations where animals come together that might avoid each other in the wild. Even so, the keepers at the orphanage have never seen a baboon and bushbaby become friends before.

Edward Kariuki, Kenya Wildlife Service, says the baboon is helping take care of the young bushbaby. He says, "It so happens that after keeping them for quite sometime they have developed a relationship where the baboon is now taking care of the young bushbaby. This is not normal. It has not happened here and I guess it has not happened anywhere else."
