Amateur Photographer Captures Killer Whale Hunting Sharks

Posted on December 29, 2011

Amateur photographers shopped footage of a killer whale hunting sharks in the waters off Tuatapere's Blue Cliffs beach in New Zealand. The Orca is thought to have been herding the sharks towards the beach where they are more vulnerable. One of the injured sharks did end up beaching itself in an attempt to escape the killer whale. A brave dog ran up to the shark and started running around it.

Marine scientist Clifford Duffy says, "I'd be picking that there would be several more killer whales in a staggered line out to sea from the beach, so that whale that you see in the surf zone there is probably in there flushing fish offshore for the other ones to catch."
