Posted on March 18, 2005

Reuters reports that a disease has killed 77 of the 83 people suspected of being infected in Angola. The disease causes fever, vomiting and diarrhea and has primarily killed children. WHO officials called the disease acute hemorrhagic fever and an ebola outbreak has been ruled out.

Jose Caetano, a WHO spokesman in Angola, told Reuters, "The situation is now under control. Our problem is trying to get the sick to go to health centers. We are trying to encourage people who feel any of the symptoms to get medical attention as quickly as possible."
