Video: Humanoid Robot AILA is Being Trained to Work on the International Space Station

Posted on July 28, 2012

DFKI Bremen's humanoid robot AILA is being trained to work on the International Space Station (ISS). AILA is being trained on a mockup of the Columbus module of the ISS. AILA could be the second android in space. The first robot in space is Robonaut 2.

DFKI says AILA's operations are first done in a teleoperated manner using a 6 DoF Catersian input device and then autonomously. AILA will be teleoperated from Earth most of the time if it does end up on the ISS. However, the robot would need the capability of performing tasks autonomously if a communication problem were to occur.
